FROM THE EDITOR'S PEN
/ Skool Daze
Talk to that caregiver sitting next to you in the
doctor’s waiting room. Tell them one thing that
helps you get through the day and ask what helps
them get through the day. I think you will be
surprised at what you learn; but more important, you
will be surprised at what you teach. I am
always astounded by the wisdom shared.
From the lady in New Haven a few years ago who
shared the secret of getting her mom to accept home
care, to the young man in Nashville who learned from
his fellow attendees
how to get his mom to stop driving and to the
caregiver at the recent
Boca Raton conference who spoke of one of my
favorite tools in our caregiving toolkit – a
pocket tape recorder
And never miss an opportunity to share a laugh with
your fellow caregivers. Your family will think your
caregiving humor a little strange, but the family
caregiver sitting in the emergency waiting room will
be a great audience. I promise.
Class is in session.
And Happy Rosh Hashanah.
