Seven Days in July

Last Thursday, we hosted our 126th Fearless Caregiver Conference and it was a doozy. (Okay, I’m old and allowed to use such words.) The event was in Boca Raton, Florida, and hosted in partnership with our good friends, the Palm Beach/Treasure Coast Area Agency on Aging—Your Aging Resource Center.

The day was a real lollapalooza (see note above). We had a talk show with leading healthcare experts, from a doctor to the VA Caregiver Support Program coordinator and the Elder Helpline director, a technology expert, AND (ain’t finished yet) an incredible RN. They were all authoritative and inspirational and offered great suggestions for the caregivers in attendance. (Video to come soon; stay tuned.)

Of course, as is the custom at this event, so many of the pieces of the caregiver puzzle were shared by the family caregivers in attendance. One small example was from the gentleman who, when talking about hospitals and Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) forms, emphatically shared that you do not leave until you see the DNR hole-punched and placed directly into your loved one’s file. Great stuff!

We were honored that a handful of this year’s Today’s Caregiver magazine’s Caregiver Friendly® Award winners were in attendance (one, all the way from Paris, France—not Texas). Since a picture is worth a thousand words, maybe a hundred pictures are worth…oh well, you know. Pictures from the 2013 Boca Raton Fearless Caregiver Conference.
