The reason that I had the
sudden urge to apologize to my mom is that multiple
healthcare professionals, when they weren’t telling
me (in graphic detail) about the next procedure
which must be undertaken in case nature didn’t take
her proper course, were telling me that this
particular agony was as close to the physical pain
of childbirth that a man can experience. I didn’t
accept it from the male nurse, but when two female
staff members told me, I was convinced enough to
rush to the phone and call Mom.
By the way, Mom was
insistent that I get off the pain medicine
(Oxycontin) as soon as possible since that oxymoron
can be quite addictive.
Okay, Mom, my apology starts – now.
