The reason that I had the sudden urge to apologize to my mom is that multiple healthcare professionals, when they weren’t telling me (in graphic detail) about the next procedure which must be undertaken in case nature didn’t take her proper course, were telling me that this particular agony was as close to the physical pain of childbirth that a man can experience. I didn’t accept it from the male nurse, but when two female staff members told me, I was convinced enough to rush to the phone and call Mom.

By the way, Mom was insistent that I get off the pain medicine (Oxycontin) as soon as possible since that oxymoron can be quite addictive.

Okay, Mom, my apology starts – now.
