The conversation reached a
crescendo when an attendee asked the attorney if the
lady could actually force her husband to comply with
his medication regime. The attorney’s response
was thoughtful and measured, but he effectively said
that if the husband had not been deemed incapable of
making such decisions, he still had every right to
do so.
The attorney then extolled the
attendees to take advantage of this conversation by
having a
Board of Director’s discussion with their family
members. Try to make sure that the adults in
your family have their own
Advanced Directives and
checklist in place, but also that they
memorialize their thoughts on their wishes if the
time comes when they can no longer easily share them
with loved ones. These details can be as specific as
your thoughts on long-term care placement and how
many times you might want to have your hair cut.
Ah, Cambridge. How much I have
learned in your hallowed halls.
