This Week's Carenote - 04/19/11
I stumbled on your Web site while trying to find a place to take my 87-year-old mom on Saturdays (so that I can get a break and really give the house a good cleaning).  I have called and talked to so many places that offer daycare during the week, but there is nothing on Saturdays.   When I called the last place on my list to see if Saturday care was available, the woman said, “Sorry, we only have weekday service for daycare.”  Jokingly, I said, “Maybe I’ll start my own Saturday respite.”  The woman thought that was a great idea and said I would have plenty of clients.  Well, that was over six months ago and I am still thinking about a Saturday respite.

All of that said, I need to ask, how do I start up a small respite Saturday or weekend daycare?  Do you know anyone who can direct me or help me out?  I figured maybe four clients (including my mom) with one hired person experienced in the aged and medical background.

Thank you,
T

Hi, I just saw your comment about not being able to find care on Saturdays. I am not sure where you live but I work for a company called "Comfort Keepers" we work 24/7 365 days a year. Care does not stop on weekends. The minimum hours vary from franchise but usually minimum hours a day is 3 or 4. Good Luck!

Check the licensure in your state. It will be with either the State Dept on Aging or if not, they will direct you to the right place. Some staes have regulations based on number of people you care for and if you are charging (someone has to pay the help). This will save you alot of aggrevation and possible legal problems. Good idea, that's how all these other services got started.
