Yesterday, we spent the day with our fellow Fearless Caregivers in the Treasure Coast of Florida. The Fearless Caregiver Conference was held at the exquisite Kane Center and I must say that every community should have such a facility.  Nice folks, great food, support groups, medical plaza, Area Agency on Aging…Whew!

From Donna W. in Arlington, TN Tip on showering a parent: I bought an adjustable height mike stand at a music store. When I shower my mom, I sit her on the portable shower bench and place the shower head where the mike would go. It holds the shower head securely in place at the right height while I shampoo and bathe her. I am hands free and not getting a full soaking myself. From Lisa in Pennsylvania Caregiving has got to be one of the most undervalued professions there is. If you work for an agency, you are exposed to numerous issues, be it client-related, their family or lack of, the type of environment, or clients that have repeatedly had caregivers come and go with no rhyme or reason and will never be satisfied NO MATTER what you do. Remember, do not take it personally! It is not so much what you did or didn't do; it is simply the way WE need to maintain control of our lives no matter what age. We will one day need to be cared for by someone we either do not recognize or have never met. Patience, patience, my fellow caregivers; our reward is in Heaven! I have worked 30 years as a caregiver The best ideas and solutions for taking care of your loved one often come from other caregivers.Please post your ideas and insights and we will share them with your fellow caregivers.
