Throughout history, there have been many examples that prove looking backwards is not such a great idea (just ask Lot’s wife), so I hope it does not bode poorly that I am doing so in my first message of 2013.  Besides, my doctor was adamant I reduce my salt content.

With that said, I could not let another week go by without talking about one of the highlights of 2012 for me.  I am referring to joining the celebrants at the 25th anniversary gala of the Rosalynn Carter Institute on October 25th.  I had just interviewed former First Lady Carter for the cover of the September/October issue Today’s Caregiver magazine and it was a great pleasure to be able to spend time with her at the gala...read more

From Joyce in Ohio I am a facilitator of a cancer caregiver support group and there is a common bond with the caregivers. They feel one another’s stress, pain, anguish, and being overwhelmed. It's wonderful to watch as they share their stories and heads nod at almost every word because they have experienced the same. Just talking about an issue and knowing you're not alone in your situation can do wonders, not to mention the friendships that develop. Support groups can be very productive for the caregiver. Sometimes it's hard to make a meeting with all the responsibilities, but at least you know we are here if you need us! From Oldina W. in Canada My dad voluntarily stopped driving when he smacked his car up at the grocery store. It was minor damage; but when he hit a car pulling in and hit another pulling out, he decided it was time. We agreed. He gave me his car so now I take him where he needs to go. Easily solved for us. Not so with other areas, but at least he is not endangering himself or others. The best ideas and solutions for taking care of  your  loved one often come from other caregivers. Please post your ideas and insights and we will share them with your fellow caregivers.
