From Patricia in Texas Stay positive. Take care of yourself so that you can provide proper care for your loved one. My 93-year-old mom has advanced Alzheimer's / dementia. She fell and broke her hip and now she is failing to thrive. I serve her several small meals daily and all her favorite junk food. I ask God to give me patience a lot. I try to keep smiling, even when I'm crying on the inside. So, smile... From Magicgirl in Alabama Once, when Mom had a stroke, she had to be hospitalized for a short time. I stayed with her 24/7. One of the silly things I did that made her laugh was paint her fingernails and toenails a bright purple. She always had prided herself on her long fingernails and kept them painted a light pink. She thought the purple was outrageous, but funny... The best ideas and solutions for taking care of  your  loved one often come from other caregivers. Please post your ideas and insights and we will share them with your fellow caregivers.
