Olympia Dukakis and Louis
Zorich have been married since 1962
and are both accomplished stage,
film and television actors. Olympia
is an Academy Award® winner for her
role in Moonstruck and Louis is well
known for his role as Burt Buchman
in the 1990’s situation comedy Mad
About You. They join us to talk
about their lives after Louis’
recent diagnoses with Stage 2
diabetes, which was discovered after
a regular medical examination.
Olympia and Louis sit down with
Editor-in-Chief Gary Barg to laugh,
share and talk about family
caregiving as well as the importance
of taking advantage of Medicare’s
free Diabetes screening benefit for
all caregivers. Gary:

and there you are; I am dealing with
it...continued Take

to taking care of only an elderly or ill family
member. Caregiving frequently encompasses the duties
of regular parenting, but goes way beyond this role,
particularly when ...continued The decisions to become a caregiver are usually made in
crisis situations. We rarely have time to consider the
ramifications of these decisions nor do we really fully
understand that there are any ramifications...continued Over many
years experience helping clients
with long-term care planning, I
have found my time increasingly
dominated by efforts on behalf
of people whose pre-existing
health issues make placement
problematic...continued I’m a caregiver to a grandchild with
autism. I am 70 years old and have a disability with limited
mobility secondary to spinal injuries. I would like to
network with other grandparents in similar circumstances and
wonder if you can suggest a resource or a support group that
focuses on sharing helpful advice.
