Winning Advice for the New Year

Now, as this past year is put on the shelf, we turn our hopeful gaze towards 2012.

Will there be medical breakthroughs for our loved one’s ills?
Will we still fight with them over taking their pills?

Will any of our leaders in nation and state look up from campaigning and yell out, “Wait!”?...continued

Sharing Wisdom

From Gloria's daughter in Point Pleasant

Be consistent. At this time of year, we tend to put our own lives first. The elderly and the sick need attention more than ever. Schedule extra time in the day to cover their emotional needs and perhaps listen to their reflections of holidays past. This is a great time to spread peace on Earth and “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

From Christina in Los Angeles, CA

My grandmother takes a couple of very important meds for her heart and unless I called her to remind her, she wouldn't take them. A couple of times we even had to go to the hospital. My friend suggested we get a medication reminder system like a pillbox with a built-in alarm. Since I got one for her, my grandmother hasn't missed a single dose; it's great. Plus, I don't have to worry about her taking the wrong meds.  I know I sound like an advertisement, but I really think a lot of people would benefit from this so I thought I'd share it.

The best ideas and solutions for taking care of  your  loved one often come from other caregivers.  Please post your ideas and insights and we will share them with your fellow caregivers.
