Happy Thanks for Giving Day

I think there has never been a more aptly named holiday for family caregivers than Thanks Giving. Oh, I know that there are traditional theories behind the holiday, the Pilgrims, turkey and stuffing and all that. But I am taken with the fact that the name of the holiday details everything I think about caregivers: Thanks for Giving so much for your loved ones, friends and community.

Thanks for Giving your time, energy, heart and dedication for those who are in need

Thanks for Giving a face to all that is right with this world

Thanks for Giving so very much so often.

And finally, (something that I hope one day to be able to say to all caregivers,) Thanks for Giving yourself the regular respite break that you so richly deserve whenever you need it.

Oh yes and Happy Turkey Day!

Take care

Carenotes

My 74 year old mother  is a recovering alcoholic and severely depressed. She lives alone for now but I know very soon she is going to need some help.  She is becoming more and more depressed and wants to see no one.  She is very independent and it will be difficult to convince her that she needs help. I have no idea where to begin caring for her in a way that will not  push her deeper into depression. Any help would be appreciated.
