The Della Reese Interview (Page 3 of 3)

An Interview with Della Reese

Gary: You are in a unique position as a spiritual leader and someone who has been a family caregiver. You are somebody that family caregivers reach out to. Have you come up with any advice that you would like everybody in our caregiving audience to take to heart?

Della: Well, I think the advice has already been given. One of the things is give and it shall be given to you, pressed down, shaken together and running over. It is better to give than it is to receive. You see, those sound like clichés, but they are really true. People just need somebody to say, “Come on. Let me show you. Just give this time right here and see how you feel about it.”

Gary: Let me let you know that you belong. What you and your family are going through, so many other people are trying to reach out and help you, even if it is just a case of holding your hand and listening to you talk.

Della: Whatever it is, I have time for you. Instead of watching the soaps, I have time for you. Take this time right here. Let us go and sit in the park. When was the last time you fed a pigeon? Come on. Let us go to the zoo or the movies. Let us just ride around and see what is going on. When was the last time you have been shopping? Let us go look in the stores. It is not about money. It is about my caring to spend some time with you, you see. You need that. Everybody needs that. I know I need it.
