May 1999, our second series of “Sharing Wisdom” Conferences take to
the road.
Over the years, I’ve spoken at a
variety of healthcare events, from Scleroderma to Alzheimer’s, AIDS,
Huntington’s disease and Stroke conferences. I love this part of what I
get to do. I love interacting with caregivers and look forward to
speaking each and every time.
April 2000, a very big month. We move once again to larger
facilities and hire a new publisher, Steven Barg and Managing Editor
Nancy Schonwalter. We are honored with the first annual Media award from
The Southern Gerontological Society
May 2000, we create our weekly online newsletter and subscriptions
soar.
June 2000, Gramp, Mom and I appear in Parade magazine and Gramp
passes away.
November 2000, over the past three months, I conducted over
twenty-five radio interviews. My favorites are the call-in shows.
Through the shows, I am able to talk with caregivers from Miami, Florida
to Nome, Alaska.
Our Magazine Special Focuses are an annual tradition by this point. The
topics have included: Cancer; Depression; Alzheimer’s; Multiple
Sclerosis; AIDS; MCI (Mild Cognitive Impairment) and Incontinence.
June 2001, finally, the final draft of my first book “The Fearless
Caregiver” is overnighted to the book publisher.
June 2001, I can hardly believe it, but Gramp is gone a full year.
July 4, 2001, the sixth year of our own personal Independence Day;
the distribution of the first issue of
Today’s Caregiver Magazine.
July 5, 2001, the first day of our seventh year of publication, with
many more to follow.
September 11, 2001, In the middle of writing my weekly newsletter,
not only does the tone of the message change mid-sentence, so does the
world, as we know it.
